A Georgian wine-making business will be holding a wine-tasting dinner this May.

Kaha Guliashvili is the founder of GeoNaturals, a wine importer and UK distributor. It distributes wine to private wine shops and restaurants across the region, and has a market stall at the Winchester market, regularly attending on Saturdays.

The stand is located in front of M&S, which owner Kaha has described as 'the permanent place for us'.

The business offers a wide selection of up to 20 Georgian wines which can be tasted and chosen for all occasions.

Georgia, in the Caucasus mountains south of Russia, is one of the oldest wine-making countries in the world and is home to more than 500 different endemic, indigenous grape types which do not exist anywhere else.

Georgia still makes amber and red wines in 'Qvevri' using an ancient method. 'Qvevri' is a large earthenware vessel used for the fermentation, storage and ageing of traditional Georgian wine. The wine made in traditional Georgian way is free of any animal product or artificial yeast.

GeoNaturals will be holding a wine-tasting dinner on Friday, May 10 at St Paul's Church in Winchester. The dinner will be for around two hours, with four pre-dinner wine tastings and three wine tastings during dinner.

The menu will showcase the best of Georgian food, starting with a Pkhali Trio, consisting of steamed spinach, leek, and roasted aubergine, complemented by the flavours of traditional walnut paste with garlic and herbs.

The main course will be  a slow-cooked beef stew infused with fresh tomatoes and herbs, served alongside stonebaked bread that's perfect for soaking up every last drop of flavour.

To round off the evening on a sweet note, treat yourself to a decadent Courgette and Cardamom Cake, adorned with pistachios and served with luscious organic yogurt.

Each course will be served with a perfectly paired fine Georgian wine picked specifically to compliment the taste of the dish.

The evening will be led by Kaha and will be bolstered by a presentation about the taste wines, plus Georgian wine-making methods and history.

Owner of GeoNaturals, Kaha Guliashvili, said: "Wine holds a central place in Georgian social gatherings, serving as a symbol of hospitality and unity. Families often gather around the table to share meals and stories, with wine flowing freely. I’m very excited to bring an element of Georgian traditions and cuisine to the heart of Winchester.

"We look forward to welcoming you in true Georgian style with authentic family recipes and fine Georgian wine, sharing a piece of our culture in the beautiful Hampshire city.”
