A community-based Facebook group has come together to provide a donation to Winchester Hospice.

GIVE a little is a Winchester community Facebook group, designed to trade and donate items to a variety of causes.

The group, which Jessica Giles started in November 2020, had initially been set up to help family and friends who were struggling for Christmas gifts, but fast forward four years, and the group has gone from strength to strength, now boasting a community of more than 12,000 members.

Winchester Hospice opened in 2021 and provides specialist palliative and end-of-life care to adults, who live in Winchester and the surrounding area.

The hospice aims to provide the best care for those in the home, and help families throughout the process, even accommodating overnight stays in the hospital, visits from animals and pets, and even arranging several marriages.

There are 10 beds in the hospice, which is funded in part by the NHS but also through charity and fundraising. The hospice is home to an outdoor house, a garden donated by Chelsea Flower Show, and breakaway spaces inside to accommodate as much as possible, to the specific needs of patients and their families.

A spokesperson for the hospice said: "We are so grateful for the support we receive. As staff, we can only do so much so any extra help, donations and support are welcomed with open arms. We don't want to say we rely on this kind of support but the truth is that we do, and this donation will make a massive difference to those using the hospice, so thank you."

GIVE a little founder, Jessica Giles said: "I'm so proud of the page and everything we've done, so a massive thank you to the community for all its support, with this donation and all the other bits and pieces they do to help others.

"We're thrilled to be able to help and are looking forward to keeping up our community spirit and helping those in need."
