Romsey building contractors RV Dart & Son (Builders) Ltd and specialist metal roofing contractors GSL, based at Sherfield English have just completed the re-roofing of one of Southampton’s most iconic buildings.
The storms of last January blew off part of the copper roof covering from the Grade 2* listed Civic Centre clock tower, which was originally completed in 1933 and towers 160ft above the City.
The Test Valley companies were appointed by Southampton City Council for the installation of the new copper roof covering and general refurbishment of the tower facade.
Whilst the re-roofing work offered spectacular panoramic views of the City and surrounding area, the exposed conditions and prominent location offered a challenging working environment.
RV Dart site manager Cecil Hulbert and GSL master coppersmith Brian Cooper are pictured shaking hands having completed the demanding installation.
