CITY businessmen and women gave Southampton’s homeless people a festive treat.

A team of barbers and hairdressers from Afro-Caribbean hair salon Affricardo in Bedford Place, Southampton City College hairdressing lecturer Tina Arey, staff from Spice World Caribbean takeaway and Picture This UK visited the Society of St James shelter in London Road to give residents free haircuts, food and goodie bags.

As reported by the Daily Echo, the idea came from Affree Constable of Affricardo and Daniel Carraso of Picture This UK who wanted to contribute something to the community.

Daniel himself had spent two years sleeping rough in London in his teens before moving to Southampton and starting his photography business.

The 25-year-old said: “Every year we saw things like we wish we could help out a bit and give people a fresh start for the new year but this time we actually did it.

“I was homeless myself – when I was 16 I was in a hostel and if I had this sort of thing then I would have really appreciated it.”
