ONE of Winchester's oldest banks has celebrated 100 years of High Street business.

Branch staff and former managers at HSBC hosted a small coffee morning for its customers to mark the occasion.

It was first opened by the London, City and Midland Bank - later known as Midland Bank, now HSBC Bank plc - on April 15, 1915.

Staff continued serving customers throughout both World Wars despite some of them leaving to serve in the armed forces.

Today the branch employs 16 members of staff.

The bank's archive team has produced a leaflet examining the branch's history, which is now available to the public, looking at the local area and changes to banking over the last century.
