EMPLOYMENT law is an ever-changing topic and there have been some dramatic changes in recent years.

The start of the new tax year brought with it some changes relating to parental leave.

Shared parental leave is now available to both parents whose expected week of childbirth or placed adoption begins on or after April 5 this year.

Eligible employees are entitled to a maximum of 52 weeks leave and 39 weeks statutory pay which can be shared between the parents.

Mothers must take at least two weeks compulsory maternity leave.

This has led to the removal of additional paternity leave, so, employers need to ensure that their maternity and paternity policies and procedures are updated to reflect these changes.
