CHINEHAM-based Miller Homes Southern has teamed up with an Olympic diver Pete Waterfield to pick a winner for its Summer of Sport competition.

The diver will help the house builder to choose a sports club in the South to receive prize money up to £1,000.

The competition, which runs until August 31, is now in its fourth year and has already attracted a high number of entries from across the region.

To take part, entrants can download a form from millerhomes.co.uk and tell the judges, in under 200 words, how their club would benefit from the money and what it will be spent on.

Pete, who is a member of Southampton Diving Club, took up the sport when he was nine, and went on to win Silver in the 2004 Athens Olympics.

Delighted to have the champion diver as a judge, Tracey Lee, area sales and marketing director at Miller Homes, said: “Pete is a world-class diver and he is passionate about his sport.”

“He knows that local sports clubs play an important role in nurturing talent in the community and helping people to become more active. With this background, he is ideally placed to identify the clubs that will make the most of the prize money.

“As part of the judging process he will look at how clubs will make use of the cash, whether it be taking athletes to competitions or investing in training and equipment.” Delighted to be involved with the Summer of Sport competition, Pete said: “I have been lucky enough to build a career around something I love.

“This money will really help grassroots sport clubs in the South and help others achieve their dreams. I can’t wait to read the entries.”
