ONE OF Hampshire’s top hotels has won another prestigious accolade.

The Pig in Beaulieu Road, Brockenhurst, has been crowned Britain’s best holiday hotel at a glittering awards ceremony staged by the magazine Conde Nast Traveller.

It beat Babington House in Somerset, where Oscar-winning actor Eddie Redmayne married his long-term girlfriend Hannah Bagshawe last year.

Previous winners of the award include the five-star Chewton Glen Hotel in Christchurch Road, New Milton.

Staff at The Pig, which also boasts five stars, said they were “delighted” that the hotel had taken top honours in the best holiday hotel category.

A spokesman said: “The prestigious award is voted for by readers and is widely recognised throughout the industry. Previous winners include Chewton Glen and Raymond Blanc’s Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons in Oxford.

“The Conde Nast readers’ choice survey began in 1988 and has since become one of the industry’s biggest awards with over a million votes from readers in 2014.”

The Pig has won a fistful of top awards since it opened in 2011 with Hotel du Vin creator Robin Hutson at the helm.

Previous accolades include sustainable restaurant of the year 2014, sustainable hotel restaurant of the year 2015 and best countryside hotel 2015.

Some of the 26 rooms are in the main house, a former hunting lodge, while others are in refashioned outbuildings.

Food is sourced locally or homegrown, with guests encouraged to stroll through the walled kitchen gardens.

The Conde Nast Traveller awards also saw London crowned the UK's favourite city for the fifth year running thanks to its top bars, restaurants and hotels.

Fresh from its triumphant festival, Edinburgh came second and Bath, famed for its Georgian architecture, was third.

Italy was named favourite country by readers for the sixth year running, with France and America in second and third.

Paris took the top spot for overseas city, with New York coming second and Barcelona third.

The Mandarin Oriental in Hyde Park, London, was named the UK’s top UK business hotel, followed by Claridge's and The Connaught, in Mayfair.
