A FAMILY-OPERATED Hampshire marina has bought a five-acre site to allow it to expand and create a new waterside leisure facility.

John Willment Marine Ltd, which owns and operates Universal Marina on the River Hamble at Sarisbury Green has acquired neighbouring Five Oaks Trout Fishery.

The purchase was made with the aid of a seven-figure finance package from HSBC.

The £1,475,000 finance facility will also allow marina firm to redevelop the trout lake and clubhouse.

It will fly fishing ashore and at sea, holistic spa therapies, fine wining and dining, paddle boarding, kayaking, yoga and model yacht racing.

Avia Willment, managing director of John Willment Marine Ltd, said: “We’ve had our sights set on the clubhouse and lake next door to the marina for a number of years so we’re delighted that, with the support of HSBC, our hopes have become a reality.

“This latest project has a synergy with our work at the marina, allowing us to create a modern, sustainable environment for our guests.”

The new facilities will be available to existing Universal berth holders, tenants and customers and the general public.

Anthony Reed, HSBC’s area director for Hampshire and Dorset, said: “We’ve been working with John Willment Marine for the past 11 years so we had a thorough understanding of the business and its objectives, meaning we were able to provide a tailored and cost-effective finance package when the opportunity to expand the marina arose.

“The funding has also led to the creation of a number of jobs for the local economy which is something we’re always keen to support.”
