A BUSINESS park in Basingstoke is powering up for the future with plans to install electric vehicle charging points.

Chineham Park will get two state-of-the-art rapid chargers, which will be able to add hundreds of miles of range in just 20 minutes.

The move has been made possible thanks to a deal with InstaVolt, which is based at the park and is installing thousands of rapid charging points across the country.

Wendy Scott, customer manager at Chineham Park, said: “We’re always looking for ways to minimise our impact on the environment and encouraging use of electric vehicles will play a big part of that going forward. We’re excited to be able to offer this rapid charging service to Chineham Park occupiers and visitors, thanks to our partnership with InstaVolt.”

InstaVolt is set to install the charging units at Chineham Park this autumn. The devices, from US firm ChargePoint, can take an electric car to 80 per cent charge in half an hour.

Tim Payne, chief executive officer of InstaVolt, added: “We’re installing 3,000 rapid chargers across the UK and it’s only right that our home town should be one of the places to benefit. As more and more people drive electric vehicles, having a network of places where they can charge up en route, such as business parks, will be incredibly important.”

InstaVolt’s chargers are available to use on a pay as you go basis, with no subscription or membership required. Drivers tap their contactless credit or debit card, charge up and go.
