A HAMPSHIRE builders' merchants has been presented with an award to mark its 175th anniversary.

Family firm Elliotts received the commemorative trophy from leading power tool company, Stanley Black & Decker.

The trophy was received by Elliotts chairman, Stuart Mason-Elliott, who said “It’s an honour to be presented with this commemorative trophy to recognise our 175th anniversary.

“It’s important to Elliotts that we continue to build relationships and work with the best suppliers, so we’re very proud to work with a company like Stanley Black & Decker.”

Stanley, who joined forces with Black & Decker in 2010, will also be celebrating their 175th anniversary this year.

Mick Gill, general sales manager of DeWALT (part of the Stanley Black & Decker group), said: “Elliotts has been a big supporter of Stanley Black & Decker and we’ve had a major partnership for decades. As a company, we wanted to show our appreciation for their continued business and contribution to the construction industry.

“It’s a testament to both our businesses that we are celebrating 175-year anniversaries."

Founded in 1842, Elliotts is is one of the oldest family businesses in the south.

It has grown from humble beginnings to have 13 branches across the region with over 300 staff. Headquartered in Southampton, the firm claims is never an Elliotts more than 20 minutes away from any building site in Hampshire.

Today it is run by Stuart's son, Tom Elliott, the sixth generation of Elliott, to take the helm of the business.
