COLDEN Common Primary School has revised its curriculum to make topics “more exciting” for children, its headteacher says.

This has helped the school introduce annual school trips to complement pupils’ studies and make better use of the school grounds.

Last summer pupils in year four went to Minstead Study Centre where they learnt about Vikings, Greek gods and rainforest aboriginals.

Pupils in year six also travelled to Land and Wave in Swanage where they took part in outdoor activities such as kayaking, rock-climbing and coasteering.

The school is currently fundraising through its Colden Common School Association (CCSA) to buy five new iPads to aid the students’ learning.

Money has been raised through hog roasts, quiz nights, summer fairs, Christmas hampers and Easter egg hunts.

The CCSA is also responsible for arranging celebrations for learning achievements, as well as annual events such as World Book Day and Sports Relief.

In June 2017 inspectors rated the school, on Upper Moors Road, as “good” overall.

Headteacher Frances Hardy welcomed the rating.

She said: “We deservedly got a ‘good’ Ofsted result.

“We persistently score above the national average.

“We’ve got a really inclusive culture.

“We take children with a wide range of backgrounds and as a school we manage these children really well.”
