A HAMPSHIRE deputy head teacher has been named as one of the best in the country at celebrating education and technology.

Jose Picardo of Hampshire Collegiate School was announced as one of the UK's top 50 teachers for promoting tech in the classroom at a reception at the House of Lords.

Chosen through a combination of public nominations and a judging panel, the list is designed to "celebrate a wonderful sector, whilst recognising the benefits of education technology, and acknowledging the economic advantages of the growing education and technology sector to the whole UK economy" said director of the Education Foundation organisation, who put together the list.

Mr Picardo said: “It is very encouraging to see bodies representing the UK education and technology sector recognising companies and educators who work hard to understand the role of technology in supporting teaching and learning.

“Technology complements our multi-faceted approach to teaching and learning and contributes to developing pupils with character; pupils who are competent, confident and capable of taking their place in the world and effecting meaningful change to make the world a better place."

He has just published a book called Using Technology in the Classroom
