ROMSEY Abbey C of E Primary School has celebrated its Forest school status by teaching children the importance of nature.

The school has one Year Three teacher who is a qualified forest school leader, which means children can develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in woodland.

Head teacher Julie-Anne Palfrey said: “This means that pupils in reception and Year One take part in Forest Schools activities, including den building, cooking over fires, using tools such as hammers and saws and bug hunting.

“This enriches the children’s experience of being in nature with the freedom to explore and have fun while learning through play.”

Pupils at the school said that the tree climbing and investigating smaller creatures was beneficial to their learning.

Yeah Three teacher Ms New added: “It’s an inspirational process.”
