A STUDENT is being treated in hospital after being attacked at a college.

Police rushed to the scene at Testwood School shortly after 11am on Monday following the incident.

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the incident.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokeswoman said: "A female student had been assaulted and suffered a puncture wound to her abdomen.

"The injury is not considered life threatening and she is being treated in hospital.

"Officers are on scene carrying out enquiries."

One parent wrote on social media that their child had "just seen a boy stab a girl in the hall".

Testwood School in Totton confirmed that officers were called to the scene but refused to say what had happened.

A statement says: "As you may be aware there has been an incident here at Testwood this morning.

"The situation is under control and students are not in any danger.

"We are working with the police on this matter and we are unable to give any further details at this moment."

A South Central Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called at 11.02 regarding an assault on a student at Testwood School.

"We sent an ambulance to the school and the patient, a female student, was treated at the scene before being taken to University Hospital Southampton.

"Her injuries were not serious or life-threatening."
