A WORLD-renowned actress and human rights activist is coming to Winchester as part of an appeal to restore cathedral windows.

Star of Absolutely Fabulous and The Wolf of Wall Street, Joanna Lumley will be in conversation with John Miller in the magnificent nave of Winchester Cathedral in October.

The actress was born in Kashmir and spent her early life in Hong Kong and Malaysia. She is considered a national treasure in Nepal for her support of the Gurkha Justice Campaign.

Her father served for 30 years with the 6th Gurkha Rifles, and was a Chindit in Burma.

Alongside designer Thomas Heatherwick, Joanna has been campaigning for the “Garden Bridge” over the River Thames, which would link the north and south of the capital, featuring gardens and trees. This is just one of many topics anticipated for the October 21 talk, during which she will be interviewed by former artistic director of the Winchester Festival John Miller.

Followed by a drinks reception, the evening will raise money for the Friends of Winchester Cathedral, who hope to save the medieval stained glass windows in the building.

An Evening with Joanna Lumley at Winchester Cathedral costs £15 a ticket or £10 for Friends.
