TO celebrate 50 years in music, legendary folk and protest singer Julie Felix will appear in Winchester this weekend.
The first solo folk performer signed to a major British record label, Julie came to the UK from California in 1964, and two years later became the resident singer on The Frost Report, presented by Sir David Frost.
From 1968 to 1971 she hosted her own TV shows on the BBC, including Once More with Felix, when she introduced the then unknown Leonard Cohen to European audiences.
Julie said: “It’s hard to know where the time has gone but I have had a wonderful half-century of warm memories and making music around the world.
“I’ve also tried to raise the profile of issues close to my heart.”
During her career Julie has sung out for many causes. She visited the Middle East as a humanitarian ambassador for Christian Aid, campaigned for Latin American refugees and founded Guitars against Landmines.
On Saturday, September 27, Julie will perform at The Railway Inn.
