A FUNNY Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum will show at a Romsey theatre next week.
The musical comedy, set in Ancient Rome, tells the story of Pseudolus – a lying, dishonourable yet loveable slave trying to obtain freedom. When he learns that the son of Senex – his master – loves one of the girls from a house of ill repute, he agrees in exchange for his freedom to help the innocent hero win the maiden’s love.
This sets the stage for some outrageous situations and hilarious moments.
The musical score, created by Stephen Sondheim, includes an array of memorable songs, including Comedy Tonight and Everybody Ought to Have a Maid.
The original production won five Tony Awards and closed after almost 1,000 performances, exactly 50 years ago.
Director, Matthew Ellison, said: “Everyone’s had a lot of fun on this production.”
The production runs from October 13-18 at 7.30pm at Plaza Theatre. Tickets cost £12 and are available at plazatheatre.com or from the Romsey Tourist Information Centre (01794 512987).
