A SOCIETY which celebrates the work of a world-renowned composer will be holding an event in Winchester next week.

Broadcaster and reviewer Ian Lace will host the illustrated talk by the southern branch of the Elgar Society, on Saturday, October 25.

Entitled Elgar and Delius – Triumphs and Tragedies, Ian will explain the many different sides of the composers’ characters, and demonstrate, using extracts of their music, how much they had in common.

The two met only once, with Elgar often associated with pomp and jingoism, and Delius with dreamy rural miniatures.

The meeting will be held at Winchester Guildhall at 1.30pm.
