A TOP military historian is giving an illustrated talk of how Steven Spielberg’s blockbuster film War Horse was made.

Andy Robertshaw, who is a broadcaster and author himself and was special military adviser on the 2011 War Horse film based on Michael Morpurgo’s 1982 children’s novel of the same name, will be appearing at Romsey School on Friday November 7.

All cash raised from his talk will go towards the Romsey War Horse project – a statue in memory of all the horses and mules that were killed in the Great War.

Andy will also be describing to the audience the real role horses played in the First World War.

He’s the author of no less than a dozen books on military history and during the last 25 years has conducted archaeological studies on sites on the Western Front and is currently working on a major study of the Somme.

Author Dennis Bryant will be reading a moving poem at the end of the talk which starts at 7pm. Tickets are available from Romsey Tourist Information Centre on 01794 512987. They cost £8 in advance and £10 at Romsey School on the night.

Another War Horse fundraiser is a concert at Romsey Abbey on Saturday November 8. It will include a new piece of music composed by Paul van Gulick and sung by Romsey Choral Society and it is dedicated to the War Horse project.
