Win tickets to The Playboy of the Western World
The Nuffield Theatre Southampton proudly presents The Playboy of the Western World: A Nuffield Theatre Company Production, written by J M Synge and directed by Patrick Sandford
Following the tremendous success of last season’s A Streetcar Named Desire, The Nuffield’s 2008 autumn/winter season opens with a brawny Nuffield Theatre Company Production of J M Synge’s controversial comic masterpiece THE PLAYBOY OF THE WESTERN WORLD which runs in the Main House from 11 – 27 September. Directed by Patrick Sandford, this highly-reputed and topical Irish classic explores themes of reputation and violence, and the capricious nature of celebrity.
A remote, wind-swept village in Western Ireland faces the broad Atlantic.
The dark night brings in a young stranger on the run from a terrible crime. The folk greet him as a hero – he offers daring and excitement! The men take heed as the women are dazzled. Soon, like all heroes, he meets the girl of his dreams… She smiles as her Playboy wins the races on the strand, while his fiery words bewitch all who listen.
But when you least expect it, a crime can catch up with you…
The story twists with surprises in this greatest of Irish comedies.
