Captain Phoenix make their own way
Captain Phoenix
Captain Phoenix

FORMER Winchester band, Captain Phoenix, are gearing up for the launch of their debut album, Life. Temper. Riot. in May.

The album will hit the shops on Monday May 12 through Kind Canyon Records and it will be preceded by the single Stand By, which is out on Monday April 28 and available in digital formats.

The band, all in their 20s, grew up in Winchester describing the city as a place "full of middle class people and chavs".

Captain Phoenix consists of Ben Burrows, vocals and bass, Ross Curnow, drums, Luke Keyte, lead guitar and Nick Hill, guitar and vocals.

Ross was taught the drums by Ben's brother, Andy Burrows, drummer in the chart topping indie band Razorlight.

However, Ben insists Captain Phoenix have, and will continue, to make their own way in the world.

He said: "We've chosen not to coat tail Andy's contacts as others might, rather we've gone our own way as any self-respecting artist should. If we were offered a support tour with Razorlight now, we'd know it could only be because of what we've already accomplished as a band."

Indeed their accomplishments are worth mentioning.

The band played to a 1,000 strong crowd in Paris at a headlining performance before being asked by Luke Pritchard to play with The Kooks at some of their recent UK gigs.

Captain Phoenix return to Winchester on Wednesday May 14 to play a gig in the city's HMV store and they are also on the bill for the forthcoming Blissfields Festival in June, which is being held at the Matterley Bowl, just outside Winchester.
