Usher has revealed how he found getting into character easier than expected for a stunt.

The Confessions singer pretended to be a street performer on Venice Beach to surprise British fan, Claire Spence, as part of MasterCard’s Brits campaign.

He later pulled off his mask, revealing his true identity to Claire, who had been flown out to Los Angeles under the guise of participating in a documentary.

“It was such a brilliant stunt. I was stood on a box performing a few dance moves and Claire came over and put a dollar in the hat below me,” the singer explained.

“Then I came alive and she was wide-eyed and completely stunned when I jumped off the box and revealed my identity.”

Usher’s disguise was so effective that he got some money for his dance moves.

“I completely got into character. I got a few dollars in my hat and it felt good. I split the commissions with the other dancers,” he joked.

“But it was cool and a lot of fun and I felt like I was doing something creative. I think I stepped out of my shell a little bit and also to give her a surprise that she never expected.”

The singer will perform some special shows as part of a MasterCard Priceless gig later this year.

“I am in the process of putting together a few intimate gigs for Mastercard and it’s going to be at a very unique and private venue. Fans are in for a real treat as I’m going to be performing an acoustic set,” he teased.
