Holmes switches roles at Romsey Town

ROMSEY Town's team manager Trevor Holmes is switching to the role of general manager after guiding the club from the Second Division of the Hampshire League to the top flight of the Wessex League.
When Holmes took over in the wet winter months of 2002, Town were at the bottom of Hampshire 2 without a win in their opening ten games. One of their first results was a 4-0 defeat by neighbours Broughton, who were second from bottom at the time.
But the side battled through the rest of the season and got a couple of wins under their belt before Holmes began his team-building by declaring the club's training sessions in the summer of 2003 open to anyone keen to play for the club.
Holmes, who had been on Saints' books and whose father, Arthur, was a previous club secretary and Southampton Senior Cup-winning manager for the Town, recalled: We had 50 players turn up for pre-season training and one of them was Simon De'Ath and he turned out to be one of the best signings I ever made.''
