Kenya troupe raise funds for their village
A FLAVOUR of Africa is to be brought to Romsey Abbey. The Osiligi Troupe of Maasai Warriors will be performing a mixture of dancing and singing in a concert at the abbey on Saturday, October 27. The group, who come from Kenya, will be performing as part of their annual tour after approaching Music in Romsey who organise events at the abbey. The troupe are traditional performers from Kenya who regularly visit the UK in an effort to raise funds for their families and for improvement of their village back home. They were particularly keen to perform at Romsey Abbey. Music in Romsey, a voluntary group which puts on roughly 15 concerts a year, has hosted choirs from abroad before, notably Russia, but never a group from Africa before. Edna Rowland, secretary of Music in Romsey, said: “It’s certainly going to be a one off.” Husband Michael, also a member of Music in Romsey, added: “It’s very unusual. We have never put on anything like this.” The performance begins at 7.30pm. Tickets are available from the Tourist Information Centre, on Church Street, or by calling 01794 512987.
