WATER levels have dropped in the Romsey area following yesterday’s heavy rain and flooding.

The River Dun nearly burst its bank at Dunbridge yesterday (Thursday) but water levels had subsided substantially by this morning.

However, levels on the River Blackwater are still high and roads across fords along its path are still closed. This includes fords at Wellow, Plaitford and Landford.

Green Lane at Ampfield was closed yesterday because of flooding and a fallen tree blocked Tanners Lane at East Wellow late yesterday afternoon.

There were reports of standing water on many roads across the Test Valley yesterday and Romsey’s Cupernham Lane was affected by torrents of water pouring off the Abbotswood village development.

A spokesperson for the Abbotswood Consortium which is behind the 800-home “urban” village, said: “We are currently investigating the cause of the flooding.”
