TODAY is a new beginning for council services in Romsey.
And it comes as a result of Test Valley Borough Council’s decision to shut its Duttons Road offices and transfer customer services department to the former court building in Church Street.
Staff transfer to the Old Magistrates Court on Monday and will share the building with Hampshire County Council’s social services.
The majority of planning staff moved to the borough’s Andover HQ last year in a cost-cutting exercise instigated by the council’s Tory leader, Ian Carr.
Opening times of the new offices are 8.30am-5pm, Monday to Thursday and Fridays, between 8.30am and 4.30pm.
All borough council meetings previously held at Duttons Road offices are now staged at Romsey’s Crosfield Hall, which was specially revamped for the role.
The Duttons Road offices, built in 1933, are now up for sale or rent and in April councillors are due to look at any offers made for the premises.
