A THIEF stole jewellery, money and a gun from a house at Doctors Hill, Sherfield English.
The burglar is believed to have gained entry through the open fanlight of a downstairs window, and when the resident returned he realised a number of items had been taken.
Among them was £200 worth of jewellery, £100 in euros and Israeli shekels and a Walther CP88 gas-fired gun.
The 67-year-old occupant of the home in Doctors Hill left his house for just 15 minutes at 1.30pm on August 23.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Tamsin Hoare said: “Because the victim was gone for such a short time, it is possible that someone has been loitering in the area and has seen him leave.
“If neighbours saw anyone unfamiliar or a vehicle lingering in the area, we need to know.
“This also is a good opportunity to remind people to leave their doors and windows shut and locked, even if they are leaving the house for a short time.”
