A SPECIALIST care home is due to open on the outskirts of Romsey in 2015.

Hampshire-based Hartford Care is behind the 60-bed scheme at Abbotswood and it is part of the Basingstoke company’s £30million package to provide four new care homes in the county during the next two years and one has already opened at Lyndhurst.

Hartford say work on the proposed £6m-£7m Abbotswood development which already has outline planning permission, is due to start next spring and be completed by summer 2015.

A spokesperson for Hartford Care said: “The development will be a mix of residential, nursing and specialist dementia care. We are currently working through the design stage and are looking to start building next spring. Between 80 and 100 jobs will be created including nursing staff, care assistants and ancillary positions.”

Hartford opened Hartwood House - a state-of-the art care home at Lyndhurst in June and work is now under way on building 60-bed Sunnybank House at Fair Oak and work is due to start on another of Hartford’s scheme’s at Netley Abbey later this year. Hartford Care say around 300 jobs will be created in total with the development of its new Hampshire-based care homes.
