Coming just 24 hours after the 70th anniversary of D-Day, Chilworth Village Day had a 1940s theme.

Land Girls and members of the armed forces mingled with modern day visitors to the event which was held in and around St Denys Church and the community centre.

Live music came from The Rock-a-Fellas who played a selection of wartime favourites.

After the morning’s thunderstorm gave organisers a scare the event went ahead under blue skies.

“It was a terrific atmosphere and a real village gathering,” said parish administrator, Sally Kerson. “Thanks go to all who made the event such a success.”

Test Valley Borough councillor, Alison Finlay, opened the fete, which made £1,746 for the upkeep of the church.
