FOLLOWING the appointment of James Phillips as head coach, Romsey Town have unveiled their full management team line-up for 2014/15.

Assisting Phillips with the first team will be Andy Samuels, who spent some time in the dugout last season.

Samuels’ playing career includes spells with Plymouth Argyle, Bashley and Winchester City and he holds a multitude of coaching qualifications including the FA Level 2 award.

“I’ve had a taste at Romsey Town and know just how good this club can be. I’m really looking forward to getting in and working with the right lads and to see what we can achieve this season” he stated.

“Like anything in football, it’ll be hard work and challenging but I’m very confident that we’ll have a good season and lay strong foundations for the future.”

The duo will be aided by coaching pair Deividas Mikocionis and Jamie Wiseman.

Lithuanian-born Mikocionis is studying at Southampton Solent University and also holds a range of FA qualifications.

Phillips was more than happy to give the young coach, who spent time at professional clubs Rayo Vallecano and Getefe in Spain, the chance to gain experience.

Wiseman will work with Town’s goalkeepers as well as tutoring the ’keepers at Romsey Town Youth FC.

His playing career took in time at Downton and AFC Totton before moving into coaching, achieving his FA level 2 award and Level 2 goalkeeping coach award, before working with goalkeepers at AFC Totton and Eastleigh.

Emphasising the importance of having Wiseman on board, Phillips said: “With the experience and knowledge he brings, he will be an invaluable asset to myself and the club.

“He will be working with all our goalkeepers, from the U16s through to the first team, and I believe attracting Jamie to the club is a major coup. I am thoroughly looking forward to working with him”.

Former Arsenal coach Chris McGinn has been appointed senior football consultant and will be a valuable resource working alongside the management team.

The Bypass Ground club have also recruited a new physiotherapist and masseuse in Katie Burch to aid with the players’ recovery during and after games. She is a sports coaching and development graduate from Solent University.

Romsey’s 21-year-old head coach was understandably delighted to have assembled his backroom staff as the club set about regaining Sydenhams Premier status following relegation last term.

“I am delighted to have put together such a strong management team for the upcoming season,” said Phillips.

“It's sometimes very difficult to find other coaches who have the same beliefs and ideas that you have, but the group I have secured are full of experience and desire to take Romsey Town back to where it belongs.”

The management team for the development squad (formerly reserves) has also been announced.

David Gray has been appointed manager and will be assisted by Joe Grassick with whom he previously worked at Lymington Town reserves.

Given the club’s link with Romsey Town Youth FC, the development squad will play a key role in progressing players from the youth set-up to the first team.

“I'm very pleased David and Joe will be joining us,” said Phillips. “It was extremely important to me to find the right characters for these roles and that they understand and buy into what we are trying to achieve.

“David feels very strongly about promoting youth and is looking forward to developing future first team players.”

With the management structure now in place, the first team can look forward to a friendly away to Stockbridge on July 12.
