A YOUNG woman was sexually assaulted by a man with a snake tattoo as she made her way home from a night out.

The 20-year-old victim was attacked in the early hours on the border of Lordshill and Nursling.

Now detectives are hunting the attacker who is said to have a prominent tattoo of a snake on his hand.

They also want to trace motorists seen passing the route who may have witnessed what happened.

The lone woman was walking along Brownhill Way near to the David Lloyd Leisure Centre when someone ambushed her from behind, forced her to the ground and sexually assaulted her.

It was only when the terrified woman managed to scream out for help that the man ran off in the direction of the health centre.

He is described as white, around 6ft tall, of broad build with a snake tattoo on his hand.

Detective Constable Chris Moss who is investigating the crime said: “The victim has told us that several cars went past but were travelling quite fast and did not stop. It's possible they may have seen the incident but not necessarily realised what exactly they were witnessing.

“I'd like to speak with them or anyone else with information about the crime or who recognises the attacker from their description. It's unusual for someone to have a snake tattoo on their hand and it makes the person quite distinctive.

“This type of incident in the area is thankfully unusual, but we are keen to find the person responsible. “As general safety advice and I'd like to remind everyone that where possible try and walk home with friends or use public transport when out late at night. If that's not possible, stick to will lit areas and main roads as much as you can.”

Anyone who witnessed the attack between 1.15-1.30am on Sunday, September 21, should contact DC Moss on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
