Independent crime-fighting charity Crime-stoppers is offering a reward of up to £5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the arsonist who attacked the home of a Romsey pensioner.

Eighty-three-year-old Elizabeth Sanger-Davis was discovered on fire along with her pet dog during the horrific ordeal at her home in the grounds of Stroud School in Highwood Lane.

She was saved by courageous Hampshire police officers, Sergeant Alyson West and PC Adrian Starr, who pulled her from an upstairs window as flames engulfed the house.

She was treated in hospital for smoke inhalation but her dog could not be saved.

The blaze was eventually extinguished by a team of 40 firefighters.

Mrs Sanger-Davies, who has lived in the house for more than 50 years, was left traumatised after the attack on February 9 last year.

Police are treating the incident as arson and now Crimestoppers has issued a reward for information which leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the attack.

Roger Critchell, director of operations at Crimestoppers, said: “This must have been a terrifying ordeal for Mrs Sanger-Davies. Not only did she lose the home she had lived in for more than 50 years, and suffer injuries as a consequence, but she also lost her beloved pet dog.

“It is horrendous to think that anyone would deliberately endanger the life of an elderly woman in this way. We hope that they will be brought to justice.

“We urge anyone with information about this attack to contact Crimestoppers anonymously. Our phone line and anonymous online form are accessible 24 hours a day.
