Almost ten tonnes of carpet tiles and debris were dumped illegally in country lanes near Romsey over a 16-day period.

Test Valley Borough Council’s Environmental Services team is seeking information of five fly-tipping incidents which took place at Lee Drove, Spaniards Lane and Hoe Lane.

The first dumping was reported on October 14 and further incidents were reported on October 17, 27, 29 and 30.

The council say that each load included material that had been damaged in a fire.

Environmental Portfolio Holder, Councillor Graham Stallard, said: “It is a disgrace that such a high volume of rubbish was repeatedly disposed of so irresponsibly. There is a high possibility that a cage tipper vehicle was used to transport the waste and much of it looks like the remains of a fire. It is vital that anyone with information about the incidents, or who may have seen a cage tipper vehicle carrying such items, comes forward with details to support the council’s investigation.”

It is an offence under the Environmental Protection Act (1990) to fly-tip any material. The council’s Environmental Service investigates all reports of fly-tipping and will remove fly-tipped waste from public land.

To report a fly-tip, visit the council’s website or call its customer services team on 01264 368000 or 01794 527700.
