Romsey MP Caroline Nokes has reminded constituents in at risk groups to have their seasonal flu jabs.

Caroline visited Boots in Romsey and also attended a parliamentary flu vaccine clinic to highlight the importance of the vaccination.

Caroline said: “The seasonal flu jab can help to protect people who might be more susceptible to serious complications or even death from flu. It is important that people over 65 and those in the at risk groups go to their local doctors surgery to get their vaccination.”

The Department of Health provides free seasonal flu vaccinations for at risk groups, which include those aged 65 or over; people with chronic respiratory disease (including asthma), heart, renal, liver or neurological disease; diabetes; low immune systems; as well as people living in long-stay facilities such as nursing and residential homes, and carers of elderly or disabled people .

Boots is providing the vaccine alongside their campaign to make pharmacies the first port of call for those with minor ailments.

Ms Nokes who had a flu jab for the first time this year said: “I can really appreciate the benefits. Last year was a relatively mild year for flu, but it is impossible to predict what this year will be like, and I would encourage people to either attend their GP surgery or pop into the pharmacy and make sure they are protected.”
