A CHILDREN’S charity is appealing for Hampshire residents to donate unwanted Christmas gifts to it.

Officials at Barnardo’s are behind the appeal and they would like people with unwanted gifts to take them to Barnardo’s shops in the county. Any items donated to the charity will be sold in its shops to help raise cash for disadvantaged children and families in Britain.

Welsh diva Dame Shirley Bassey who has donated gifts to Barnardo’s is spearheading the appeal and she said: “Now that the festivities are over I urge people in Hampshire to look at any presents they received this Christmas which they won’t use.

“There are many vulnerable young people across the UK who are desperately in need of Barnardo’s valuable support and by donating to their stores you can be a part of making that happen.”

Barnardo’s says it receives various items after the festive season is over and the most popular are scarves, jumpers, toiletry gifts sets along with DVDs and CDs.

Anyone with unwanted gifts can drop them off at Barnardo’s donation centre at Unit 10, Shirley Shopping Precinct in Southampton, 32 Manor Farm Road, Bitterne in Southampton or 26/28 Commercial Road, Totton.
