PLANS to prune trees obstructing power lines in Romsey have been postponed.

Southern Electric had planned to turn the power off next Tuesday while the work was carried out in the Sadlers Mill and Pauncefoot Hill areas of Romsey.

But the electricity giant has decided to delay the work after people complained about their power supplies being turned off in the very cold weather.

A spokesperson confirmed that there had been complaints about the timing of the planned work.

“Concerns were raised and we are rescheduling the work which is part of our rolling tree cutting programme. It is part of our maintenance work to protect power supply lines,” said the spokesperson.

He added that residents will be notified in advanced of when the work will be done.

Ray Moorman who lives at Little Meads said he was worried about elderly getting cold if they were left without power for long in the wintry weather conditions.

“It’s crazy doing the work in this weather if it is not urgent. It should be done in warmer weather,” said 77-year-old Mr Moorman.

He said that generally Southern Electric “does a great job” but the decision to do this work in February had been “stupid”.
