The members of Romsey Abbey Girls’ Choir are looking forward to their singing holiday to Italy in July.

They will be visiting Romsey’s twin town, Treviglio in Lombardy, where they will be performing in two concerts – one secular one sacred It is 12 months ago since the Girls’ Choir and the Abbey Men sang at a special Choral Evensong for the signing of the Friendship Agreement between the two towns. Twinning committees and mayors were present from both.

Over the last year the girls and their families have raised just over £2,000 to help pay for the trip.

Fund raising event have included a sponsored sleepover in the Abbey, car washing, raffling hampers, baking cakes to sell after services, and carol singing.

A team from the choir, christened “The Fallen Angels”, will be running in the Bradbeers Relay Marathon at Broadlands this Sunday (April 19). Currently the choir has 22 members aged between 10 and 17 who regularly sing on the first Sunday in the month, Eucharist and Choral Evensong, as well as at major services with the male choir. Recently the girls joined forces with Christchurch Priory Girls for the Candlemas Choral Evensong in the Abbey. The choir is due to sing at Portsmouth Cathedral with Cantate at the beginning of May.
