A SINGING group made up of friends from a London university is gearing up for a day trip to Hampshire.

The Imperial Male Voice Choir (IMVC) will join forces with the Mountbatten Community Choir for a performance at Romsey Abbey.

Fresh from the success of their tour to the west of Ireland the internationally-acclaimed IMVC will be led by musical director Deborah Miles-Johnson.

The heart of the nomadic group is based on friends who have been singing together since days at Imperial College London.

They say they love nothing more than to stage music for the benefit of local communities, and the Romsey concert is no different.

It will raise cash for the proposed new building project at the Abbey.

The performance will feature a rich mix of folk, opera, tunes from musicals and more, complemented by the community choir’s own repertoire, led by Michael Whiteside.

A Midsummer Choral Picnic is at Romsey Abbey on June 27.

The Garth Lawn is open from 5pm for picnics and there is a cash bar. The music starts at 7.30pm.

Tickets cost £14-£18 on the door.
