AN INTERIOR designer from Romsey is set to add some style to this summer's Zany Zebra trail around Southampton.

Marwell Wildlife has announce that the owner and director of Renaissance Interiors has joined the stampede in sponsoring Zany Zebras sculpture, one of many that will be tracked down during this summer's art extravaganza.

Married mum-of-two Karen Chapman has spent 25 years transforming homes and to celebrate that anniversary will apply her design skills to zebras.

The former Wellow County Primary School student moved to Hartley Wintney 15 years ago.

She explained why she decided to get involved.

“Like many children living in the south, my son and daughter used to love visiting Marwell Zoo,” Karen, 49, said.

“As a supporter of their conservation work, when I found myself presented with the opportunity to take part in the Zany Zebras project, I jumped at the chance.

“I have been creating bespoke designs for people’s homes for 25 years but this is the first zebra I have ever had to design.

“I am looking forward to using my imagination and creative flair to come up with something stylish and a bit different.

“I am very excited to be part of this project and see it as really meaningful way to celebrate my business anniversary.”

Southampton will become home to a herd of colourful zebra sculptures that will pop up across the city and wildlife park as part of a public art event that promises to create an unforgettable trail for families to enjoy.

It is part of a campaign to raise awareness of Grevy’s zebras.

Over the past 40 years, the number living in the wild has rapidly declined and they are now resident in just two out of the six countries that they used to be found.

Kirstie Mathieson, Project Manager for Marwell’s Zany Zebras said: “We are delighted to be working with Karen on this exciting project to raise the profile of her work and business. We look forward to seeing the Renaissance Interiors sculpture which I am sure will be suitably stylish!“
