PEOPLE in a Romsey can find extra motivation to get fit and active after a new £7,000 outdoor gym was installed.

Residents living near the Canal Walk can flex their muscles and get a work out with four new devices near Withy Close.

A new rowing machine, cross trainer, hip swing and sit-up device have been installed allowing people to work on their cardio-vascular fitness.

The new gym was set up after Test Valley Borough Councillors for Cupernham Dorothy Baverstock and John Ray managed to get a community grant and cash from development.

Cllr Baverstock said: “It’s a dream come true. We have been trying to get it in place for about three years. It’s good to have achieved a really good, fun facility for the people in Cupernham ward.

“The idea is that when people are jogging or walking you can hop on and have some exercise. It gets boring when you just stick to your routine. You want to have a change of exercise. We hope that this would be about halfway through people’s routine.”

Both Cllr Baverstock and Ray thanked the community engagement officer for Test Valley borough Council, Marianne Piggin, for doing the heard work to get the cash together.

“I think without Marianne we wouldn’t have been able to do it,” Cllr Baverstock added.
