A CLASSIC fairy tale is coming to the stage in Romsey when a community amateur dramatic group puts on their latest pantomime.

Members of the NOMADS amateur theatrical group are getting themselves ready this weekend before the curtain comes up at the Woodley Village Hall for their version of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.

Directed by Brian Rowe the show is on from next Thursday (February 18) with performances at 7pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights with matinee shows at 2pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Producer and NOMADS chairman, Martin Drake, spoke about why he was glad to be putting on this show.

He said: “We try to involve as many ages as we can. The younger generations wanted to have a bit more involvement so I thought of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.

“This year, working with children is more intense, making sure they’ve got the rights dance and that they fit in with the chorus.”

Martin said the show was full of “traditional pantomime” themes and while there are traditional songs such as “Hi-Ho!” there are also more modern tunes in there too.

Martin’s wife Rachel takes on the role of the beautiful Snow White who is far too fair for the Wicked Queen, played by Sonia Walker.

NOMADS secretary Saffron House plays the part of The Prince who miraculously wakes her up after she falls into a coma while eating a poisoned red apple.

Brian Rowe plays the pantomime Dame Dolly while Martin fills in the role of Simple Simon, the comedy character

The plot, originally by Jacob and Willhelm Grimm, remains true to its original form but is modernised a little.

Snow White returns from college but is banished out into the kitchen to do the chores by the Wicked Queen, who turns out to be her step-mother.

But Snow has fallen in love with The Prince, a former schoolmate of hers, and she is sent away and ends up living with the seven dwarves who help her out.

Still wanting to get rid of Snow, the Wicked Queen disguises herself as an old crone and gives her a red apple.
