HE HAS helped organise Romsey's Remembrance Day event for the past 16 years.

Romsey Royal British Legion Club member Stephen Horsley has worked with the vicar of Romsey Abbey, Canon Tim Sledge and staff at the Romsey Town Hall to stage the annual Romsey Remembrance Day Parade.

This sees a procession through the streets, followed by a short service and tributes laid at the town's war memorial in November.

Now he has announced his retirement from the role.

Mr Horsley, who served in the 2nd and 4th 'The Rifles', said he knew what such events meant to ex-service personnel.

"I have put a lot of time and energy over the years into raising the profile of the Remembrance Day Parade in Romsey," he added.

"It has been an honour and a privilege to be involved in organising the event."

Mr Horsley went into management jobs after 22 years in the forces and retired in 2000, when he became involved with the Royal British Legion as club secretary and then as chairman from 2008 until last year, helping organise the group's move from Latimer Street to Love Lane.

RBL member John Dunstan will take over the responsibility of the parade with help from Don Cocke.
