A WEATHER warning has been issued for Hampshire today.

As residents enjoy the arrival of summer, the Met Office have released a yellow weather warning for the area.

The county has been told to expect torrential rain and even the risk of hail today, shattering today's glorious sunshine.

The Met Office as said there will be heavy, thundery showers that will turn locally into torrential rain with the risk of hail on Tuesday afternoon.

The bad weather is expected to last into the evening across parts of England, including the south coast, as well as Wales and Northern Ireland.

They have advised that while most places will miss the worst of the weather, residents should be aware of the risk of localised flooding.

A chief forecaster at the Met Office, said: "Warm, moist air from the continent will be made more unstable by a system coming over it from the Atlantic, bringing the risk of 20mm or more in an hour and 50mm in a few hours."

Hampshire experienced severe flooding earlier this year in January, when a 70mph storm battered the county.
