Two people have been rushed to hospital as around 50 firefighters battled a blaze at a Hampshire home.

The men, aged 23 and 30, were taken for treatment, while several fire crews worked to stop the flames from spreading to neighbouring homes in Winchester Road, Romsey.

Road closures are currently in place around the area which is expected to cause rush hour delays.

Winchester Road had been shut in both directions from the Plaza Theatre up to Cupernham Lane; and Botley Road in both directions from Tadburn Road.

But the closures have now partially reopened, with Winchester Road still closed between Cupernham Lane and the Botley Road roundabout.

Emergency services hope to reopen the road to pedestrians within the next few hours.

Network Rail are also being informed of the situation as smoking is billowing onto the railway bridge near the home.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service say they have now bought the fire under control and are working with gas and electric suppliers SGN and SSE.

Crews from Romsey, Redbridge, Eastleigh, Fareham, Southsea, Lymington and St Mary’s are on the scene.

The call was made at 10.48.
