Hundreds of spectators are set to line the streets of a Hampshire market town this afternoon for an annual procession.

The Wheelers Travel Procession will see scores of floats pass through the town as part of this year’s Romsey Carnival.

Those taking part will assemble in Greatbridge Industrial Estate for a 4.30pm start.

However, this year the route has been changed.

The procession has reverted to the route used in the 1980’s which includes travelling on Malmesbury Road, Alma Road and The Hundred.

The roads, Bell Street and Church Street, leading to the Market Place will be shut off at 4.30pm and it envisaged that access to Alma Road from Winchester Road will also be shut off at this time.

Access to The Hundred via Palmerston Street will also been closed at the Broadwater Junction. Latimer Street will be closed once the procession nears Palmerston Street junction.

Diversion signs for vehicles travelling north on the A3057 will be in place including Cupernham Lane and Fishlake Meadows or Cupernham Lane and Sandy Lane.

Road closure barriers and marshals will be on hand to assist motorists held up. It is hoped that the procession will clear Alma Road by 5.30pm.

The Romsey Carnival Committee apologises for any inconvenience this will cause and hopes the drivers co-operate with the marshals.
