ANOTHER shoe shop in Winchester has closed its doors for good.

Jones Bootmaker, which occupied a prime spot on The Square, has shut permanently.

It follows Shoon, which previously occupied a prime spot on Winchester High Street, which also closed back in November.

A sign in the door at Jones Bootmaker said: "We would like to thank all the customers that we have had over the years. Thank you for your support and we have loved every moment.

"Hopefully we will return to Winchester sometime in the future. But for now, so long."

The store joins a number of other well-known and independent brands who have closed down or left the city, including L.K Bennett, Zoe Jewellers, Next and Jaeger.

In July last year, fashion retailer Cadogan and Co, which has been in business for more than 20 years, also on The Square, went into administration.

But Turtle Bay is due open at the former Toni and Guy site this month and TK Maxx are also set to open a new shop in The Brooks Shopping Centre.

Tesco is also set to move into the unit where River Island used to sit on the High Street, and The Ivy is also set to open in the unit L.K Bennett once occupied, creating 100 new jobs.
