ROMSEY is to host an event for those in the community to find out more about becoming a community leader.

Civic chiefs at Test Valley Borough Council are inviting members of the public to learn about holding public office and being a councillor.

Council leaders and the Local Government Association are holding two events; one in Romsey later this month and another in Andover at the borough council offices in February.

The two events will showcase the experiences of various councillors and their time as community leaders, in a 'relaxed and interactive' environment.

Leader of Test Valley Borough Council, Phil North, said: "I really want to encourage people to get involved with a view to becoming our future community leaders.

"We have some very exciting and ambitious projects to take forward in the next few years and would people who will help us shape the borough's future."

The Romsey event is being held on January 31 at the town hall from 6pm until 7.30pm.

The borough offices in Beech Hurst, Andover, will host the second evening from the same times on February 5.

Leader of the council minority group, cllr Celia Dowden said: "It is a challenging but hugely rewarding role so, if you are someone who wants to make a difference, then come along and find out more."

The evening will offer information on becoming a councillor and to find out what support is available in the position.

Anyone interested in attending is asked to email cllrevent@testvalley.gov.uk.
