POLICE have arrested a man in connection with a string of burglaries near Winchester.

A 29-year-old from Sheerness in Kent was today (FRI) in custody after being detained following raids in Cheriton, Alresford and Medstead on Monday January 15.

Entry to houses was gained by smashing rear windows or doors between 8am and 4pm and various items of jewellery were taken.

Burglaries took place in the following streets: in Cheriton at Alresford Road; in Alresford at Tichborne Down, Jacklyns Lane, (two burglaries), Grange Road, (two burglaries) and South Close; in Medstead, at Wield Road, High Street, Hussell and Abbey Road (where a Ford Fiesta was also stolen).

A white Audi TT was reported to have been seen in Alresford and Medstead at the time of the burglaries.
