AN INVESTIGATION has been launched into the circumstances of a fatal collision on a major Hampshire Road.

An elderly passenger has been killed following a crash between a Honda and a Toyota on the A3090 near Romsey.

The cars collided at 7.20pm on last Friday evening, with the front seat passenger of the Toyota, an 87-year-old man from Romsey, suffering life-threatening injuries.

Three days later, he passed away in hospital.

Now, officers have appealed to the public for information into the 'exact circumstances' of the crash.

Both the driver of the Honda, a 26-year-old from Marchwood, and the backseat passenger, a 29-year-old man from Totton, suffered serious injuries and were also taken to Southampton General Hospital. The front seat passenger, a 21-year-old woman, also suffered minor injuries.

A statement from Hampshire Constabulary said: "The front seat passenger of the Toyota, an 87-year-old man from Romsey, suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to Southampton General Hospital. He later died in hospital on January 22.

"The driver, an 83-year-old man from Romsey, and the two backseat passengers of the Toyota, a 79-year-old woman and an 87-year-old woman, both from Romsey, suffered minor injuries.

"Investigations into the exact circumstances of the collision are ongoing.
